The Markhor is a type of goat native to Pakistan. Its widespread appearance and agility in mountainous terrain make it perfect for its symbolic role. The Persian words ‘mar’ and ‘khor’ can be translated to ‘snake eater.’ This brave animal is known to trample snakes to death, but all evidence points to the Markhor sticking to its vegetarian diet.
