Process Innovation
Last Thursday we hosted the first quarterly meeting of the NMT | Netherlands Maritime Technology process innovation commission. Most members were present, underlining everyone’s commitment to the cause.
In shipbuilding innovation, one of the main points of focus is implementing new software developments, like smart tools. Our Innovation Project Manager Tufail Shahzad started the discussion with a presentation focusing on AI in ship design.
Implementing smart tools will automate manual work processes. This helps to increase efficiency and productivity while reducing the risk of errors and improving safety measures. These technological advancements have become essential for shipbuilders to stay competitive in the industry and to meet the ever-evolving demands of the market.
All present agreed that working together is crucial for moving forward. As separate businesses, we each have our own strong points and also blind spots. Cooperation is needed to accelerate the innovation within our branch.
The other main point of focus in shipbuilding innovation is the transition to net zero emission. Both subjects are closely related, as better software will greatly help with designing ships that operate more efficiently. Furthermore, the importance of gathering and interpreting data and rules cannot be understated.
This year, the NMT process innovation commission will meet quarterly. At MasterShip, we are looking forward to the next session!
