Artificial Intelligence in shipbuilding
MasterShip Software has been awarded a grant for SME Innovation Stimulation. This will speed up our quest to take digital constructional ship design to the next level. How? Today, pushing the boundaries of technology means applying Artificial Intelligence.
Accelerating development
The awarded grant might be breaking news, our vision for the future is certainly not. For the last couple of years we have been exploring the possibilities of AI. In this quest we have been cooperating with Twentynext, a colleague brainport company specialising in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
Expect quick results! MasterShip Innovation Project Manager Tufail Shahzad: “Over the last years we have been steadily working on our vision. This means we have done extensive analysis and even explored working test environments. Now that we have secured funding, we are moving directly to real practice implementation.”
Role of AI in shipbuilding
When designing a ship, there are many aspects for a designer to keep track of. Cliënt specifications. Shipyard quality standards. Rules and regulations from multiple entities. And that’s not nearly all.
Considering the sheer amount of information, it’s impossible for designers to completely avoid mistakes. In Tufail’s words: “It is easy to submit designs for approval. It is hard to get them approved.”
MasterShip’s AI will help designers by making information available at exactly the right time. The AI, knowing all the criteria, will communicate throughout a project, guiding the designer towards smart decisions.
What can existing and new users of MasterShip software look forward to? A smoother design process, leading to quicker approvals. Less rework, faster results!

What’s next?
In the coming months, working closely with Twentynext, we will build the first iteration of the neural engine, and start compiling data- and rulesets. We will implement the first results in the MasterShip software before the end of 2023. We will keep you informed!
