A quick word with Tufail Shahzad, our accomplished engineer and dedicated team manager.

As a young child living in the far southwestern part of Punjab, Pakistan. โ€œLike every other child, I wanted to do something that was never done before.โ€ His urge to discover took Tufail all the way to The Netherlands.

But first: eastward. To China, where Tufail studied for his Bachelor in Aerospace Engineering. Though it was entirely possible to spend his four years in China speaking English, Tufail chose to learn Chinese instead. โ€œI enjoyed immersing myself in this new culture and, out of respect, wanted to learn the language.โ€

Following the advice of a mentor, Tufail applied and got accepted to an Erasmus Mundus double degree program โ€œEMSHIPโ€. Studying in Belgium, France, Poland and Turkey, Tufail added a Master in Naval Architecture (Belgium) and a Master in Mechanical Engineering (France) to his resume.

After meeting Jacques Hoffmans in 2018, he accepted a job as Naval Architect at MasterShip. โ€œIn the field of engineering, MasterShip is a relatively small company. This meant I would be involved in many processes and gaining broad experience, which fit me well.โ€

Since 2021, Tufail serves as Mastershipโ€™s Innovation Project Manager. With his people skills and mastery of the Chinese language, Tufail also rolled into managing MasterShipโ€™s team in China.

Through MasterShipโ€™s Personal Development Plan, Tufail was certified as Project Management Professional (PMP)ยฎ by Project Management Institute, the worldโ€™s leading project management organization. In a nutshell he explained: “I believe projects are done by the people, for the people, and I enjoy helping teams to run smoothly.”

โ€œCareerwise, I donโ€™t have a goal written out. I like to simply keep challenging myself every day, and see what comes by as I believe things did happen as I challenged them.โ€ . Thatโ€™s why I see myself working with MasterShip and living in The Netherlands for a long time. No shortage of opportunities here. It really is time now to learn Dutch the language, too.โ€
